I work with someone at my day job who has 16 cats and who, as part of a feral cat spaying and neutering/feeding organization, is responsible for dumping out bowls of kibble for at least 40 or 50 others. There’s not a day that goes by that doesn’t see her getting up at 5 AM, rain or shine, hot or cold, to make her rounds and scoop out bowl after bowl of food and bucket after bucket of water for her colonies of cats. It’s an impressive display of charity on her part, as she goes without to take care of her critters. When I told her about Craig Grant, founder of Caboodle Ranch, and his 500-cat sanctuary, she just smiled and called him a hero.
It doesn’t take much to fall in love with animals. Like Craig, I was never a big cat person until I actually got one. Neither was my father, but after I found my stray kitten in the parking lot at college and brought her home, he fell in love. Now he wants a second cat to keep Toonces company and double up on the entertaining cat shenanigans.
