I know you’re worried about it. We all are. Finally, there’s a website that, once and for all, answers the question on everyone’s lips, “Do I have swine flu?” Maybe you’re not concerned about swine flu. Maybe you’re concerned about swine flu’s cousin, pig flu. Well, there’s also a website that answers the question, “Do I have pig flu?” Experts don’t always agree on these things, you know?
Actually, if you want to be technical, no one has swine flu these days. The government has renamed swine flu H1N1 flu, because people were afraid to eat bacon to cure hangovers. In Israel, there was quite a bit of discussion about renaming swine flu to Mexican flu in official government parlance to avoid offending the sensibilities of orthodox Jews.
Of course, Mexicans were offended by this, but it’s merely the latest in a long lime of naming flus after their country of origin. There has already been Spanish flu and Asian flu, so why not Mexican flu? If they’ve got time to be offended by what people call their flu epidemic, then they must not be too worried about it.
Like I’ve said all along, the moment H1N1/swine/Mexican flu kills half as many people as the normal flu does in the course of a month, then I’ll be worried. Until then, this is all a big joke.
