In one of the most unusual pregnancy stories in PopFi’s long history of covering weird maternity happenings, Julia Grovenburg stands alone. After all, she’s one of the few people in the world with superfetation, which means she was pregnant, and then get pregnant with a second child. Two fetuses, one womb, two different conception times. For Julia, her daughter Jillian will be born in 2009 while her son, Hudson, is due in 2010.
Of course, odds are both children will come out at the same time. Fortunately for Julia, her son was conceived only about 2 and a half weeks after her daughter, so both children should be healthy even if one is delivered a little early. After birth, the babies will be tested to determine if this is a true case of superfetation or just some sort of weird twin situation.
What are the odds of someone who is pregnant getting pregnant a second time? It’s apparently much more common in animals than it is in humans, but it can happen in humans who have gotten fertility treatments. No word on if Julia was taking fertility drugs when she got pregnant, or if this is just a fluke.
