Disney is rolling out yet another new edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Considering the movie has been rereleased 8 times theatrically and on several different home video options, Disney has made a lot of money off their first big Princess. However, this time, Disney is cutting you a break. When you upgrade your VHS or DVD copy of Snow White to the new Diamond Edition DVD/Blu-ray edition, if you enter your UPC at Disney’s website, you get a $10 off coupon towards your new Blu-ray edition.
That’s not the end of the bargains for those of us who shop online. Big Picture Big Sound has all the details on the special Amazon coupon code (snowhite) you need to get the most bang for your movie-buying buck, and details on the Limited Edition Collector’s Set which has pretty much everything you could possibly want related to Snow White and her short pals. There’s also a gift set with a book, a gift set with plush dwarves (which admittedly is pretty awesome), and two different packaging variants for the DVD/Blu-ray combo discs. If you combine the two deals, you can get the digitally remastered Snow White for $25 below list cost.
Now, I’m not a Disney fan, but this is something I can get behind. When I upgraded from VHS to DVD, I had a whole lot of perfectly good VHS tapes that were basically useless to me. Instead of letting me trade them in for DVDs (or money off DVD editions), I just sold them at the second-hand store. And don’t even get me started on getting burned on buying a normal edition movie when the Extra Special 2-Disc Director’s Cut With Free Toy Inside comes out a few weeks later.
It’s about time customers got rewarded for being repeat customer, not punished for being suckers who bought too early. Kudos, Disney! You guys are awesome.
