It’s October, and that means Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida, is having its yearly Howl-O-Scream celebration. Basically, it’s a smearing of Halloween on top of the normal amusement park goodies. That’s why Bobbie Shay Lee decided to celebrate daughter Aidyn’s birthday with a family trip to Busch Gardens, complete with costumes for all. Unfortunately, the spirit of the season is what got them thrown out of the park.
Busch Gardens says they have a strict policy against costumes in the park. They say it’s to help keep employees and guests safe, as well as to keep guests from being mistaken for employees. Even at Halloween, apparently. For their side, Lee and company claim that they weren’t given the chance to change out of their prison clothes and that they would have rather stayed at the park than get thrown out.
No costumes at Halloween seems awfully Grinch-like behavior to me, but I can understand why the park has the rule. Still, give them the chance to change into street clothes or throw some free tee-shirts at them so they can stay and enjoy themselves. You can’t very well not expect this kind of confusion at Halloween time, especially with no signs posted stating, “No costumes allowed.”
