Bears are smarter than we give them credit for. Perhaps Yogi Bear wasn’t smarter than the average bear, but just as smart as the average bear in the real world. I make this lofty claim because Yogi always went after picnic baskets, because they’re easy targets. In the real world, bears go after minivans because they’re such easy targets. Despite making up only 7 percent of traffic in Yosemite National Parks, bears raid minivans 29 percent of the time!
There’s a reason bears can learn all kinds of cool tricks, like riding unicycles and swimming and whatnot. They’re smart, and, for theirsize, incredibly powerful and agile. That’s how bears can break into minivans. The reason why they break into minivans? Minivans mean children, and children mean lots of sweets, juice boxes, and easy-to-snag stuff to appease that ursine sweet-tooth.
Like I said, bears are way too smart for their own good. That’s why they’re America’s greatest threat.
