I watch a lot of movies that involve a lot of guns. Because of this, I’ve seen several movies where I see a gun and instantly recognize it. “Hey, that’s a Winchester 1892 Woody Harrellson’s using to shoot that zombie!” Other times, I look at a movie gun and have no idea what it is. Thankfully, there’s now the Internet Movie Firearms Database, a Wiki-style image database detailing what guns are used in what movie or video game, and what actors have handled what guns in what movies. It’s one of the most interesting new factoid databases in quite some time.
How has it taken this long for someone to come up with this idea? Or more importantly, why did it take me this long to hear about it? Some guns are instantly recognizable given who is using them (James Bond’s Walther PPK spy pistol), and other guns are heavily modified for their move appearances, but the IMFDb does a great job at identifying even the heavily modified guns of Blade Runner.
