Chris Wells, a 41-year-old mechanic from Johnson City, Tennessee, is accused of running a really good con on the unsuspecting folks in his city. He’s an auto mechanic. As such, not only is he good at fixing cars, he’s also very good at disabling cars. That’s what he’d do. He’d find parked cars at a restaurant, break them, then charge people prices ranging from $40 to $200 to repair them on the spot. I’m sure nobody even questioned why there was a mechanic hanging around McDonald’s.
You have to admit, it’s a good scam. Most people wouldn’t think twice about just handing over the money, and it’s easier than the standard mechanic scam of taking the cash and then either halfway repairing the car or repairing the car using used parts rather than new, and that sort of thing. That’s more of a reactive scam, but going out and breaking the cars yourself? That’s thinking ahead!
