Rachel Christie is quite an accomplished young woman. Or she was, anyway. At age 21, not only is she in training for the 2012 London Olympics as a heptathlete, she also found some time on her days off to become the first black winner of the Miss England competition. However, while she might still represent her country in the Olympics, she won’t be in the running for Miss World. Rachel has given up her crown after getting in a bar fight with fellow beauty queen Miss Manchester, Sara Jones.
There’s a lot in that story to process, isn’t there? I think she’s done more in the past two years than I have in my entire life. I mean, I’ve never been in a bar fight before, and certainly not over a member of the American Gladiators. Well, in this case, the British version of Gladiators.
Obviously there’s only one way to settle a dispute between two beauty queens over a muscle-headed TV sports figure. The Eliminator. First one through the obstacle course gets the guy. The only caveat is they have to go through the Eliminator in evening dresses and heels and will be judged by the Miss England panel on poise, grace, and ability to run up a treadmill in a ball gown.
