The media force known as Oprah Winfrey has been on TV for as long as I can remember. I turned 28 in August, and she’s been on the air for all but four years of my life. That’s all coming to an end in 2011, when Oprah is putting The Oprah Winfrey Show out to pasture after a staggering 25 seasons on the air.
However, that’s not the end of her story, as the billionaire Oprah will immediately start production on a new talk show starring herself on the Oprah Winfrey Network (also known as OWN), a joint venture of Harpo and Discovery Communications. She’s merely shifting her operation from syndication, where the money has been flagging, to her own cable network. The idea of Oprah having her own network is slightly insane, but she already has her own radio channel on XM Radio, and her production company produces three shows at the moment, with movie, miniseries, and other things to her credit, so she’s definitely not a stranger to this business.
