NBC Universal‘s show Heroes used to be a huge hit for the network. That was during its first season. While Heroes still gets ratings enough to keep it on the air, the show manages only about 6 million people per episode, down from 14 in its debut season. The decline in quality between seasons has something to do with that, as does the overall decline in broadcast television. People just don’t want to be forced to watch a show at the same time every week; that’s why Heroes has been the most downloaded/pirated television show for two years in a row.
The only other show with more downloaders than broadcast viewers is Dexter, which is on Showtime. Most people aren’t willing to pay extra for premium channels like Showtime, which explains that number. However, one thing I don’t understand is how Heroes gets less viewers than the superior Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, yet is still on the air for at least another season, maybe two. Heroes has been awful for a long time, but Sarah Connor was having its best-quality season, yet it can’t get renewed.
Not that I’m bitter or anything.
