In a modern world increasingly bereft of spiritual enlightenment, religions all over the world are doing their best to grasp the attention of busy modern people. At the St. Lawrence Jewry Church in London, the Rev. Canon David Parrott performed an unusual benediction on Monday. Given that his church is the official church of the Corporation of the City of London (which runs the financial district), he has a lot of parishioners who work in the field with electronics. So, why not bless those iPods, netbooks, smartphones, and laptops?
I wonder on what week of shaman school they teach you how to properly bless computers and peripherals. Still, there’s nothing wrong with a blessing. Catholics and Anglicans tend to bless everything, and when my parents moved into our current home, it was also blessed to ward off evil spirits and bestow good tidings upon us. It can’t hurt, right?
