As a former dog owner, when my terrier was alive he’d bring home lots of things from in the backyard. Given the terrier is built for hunting rats and other small critters, there wasn’t a summer that went by where he didn’t catch at least one bunny. Of course, since he wasn’t trained to bring them back, usually he’d just play with them until he accidentally killed them or they died of fright. Still, dogs bring home lots of weird things, as a pair of retriever owners found out when their dog brought them a live, poisonous snake.
Bronson is an 11-year-old Labrador retriever that Deborah and Peter Allen normally use for hunting ducks when he’s not being the family pet. However, during one night out in the family’s backyard in Yarragon, Victoria, Bronson returned with an unexpected deadly surprise: a deadly copperhead.
The freaked out family, upon discovering the snake was alive, had Bronson drop it into a canvas bag, then the dog was rushed to the vet’s office. He’d been bitten, but fortunately, he recovered after 4 days on an anti-venom drip. Madeline, their other dog, had sense enough to stay well away from Bronson and his deadly catch.
