It’s quite possibly the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a whole lot of ugly fish (and forced others to look at them, too). However, the blobfish is in his own category. Still, just because it’s a horridly ugly fish doesn’t mean it deserves to be fished to death, and right now poor little blobfish is at risk thanks to overfishing in Australia and New Zealand, where most of the blobfish make their watery home.
You know what the blobfish looks like? Ziggy! You know, the cartoon character that’s in every newspaper despite having not been funny for 20 years? The blobfish is quite obviously the inspiration for Ziggy, or at least a half-inflated balloon version of Ziggy. I think it’s the blobfish’s bulbous nose-like fold and overall rounded face that gives him the Ziggy-like appearance.
