New York isn’t normally thought to be an isolated place, but once you get outside of the Big Apple, it can get surprisingly wild. As it turns out, Long Island is a very popular destination for hunters. However, that has its problems, because oftentimes when hunters have a dog that isn’t very good at hunting, rather than bring him back after a trip, they let them go. That’s why Long Island is home to a large colony of feral beagles that have recently started to go after people in their desperation for food.
These aren’t just escaped glow-in-the-dark puppies, these are half-wild hunting dogs trained to pursue and trap prey. Feral animals are more dangerous than wild animals, because they lack that innate fear of humans. Even though these dogs were most likely kept in crates and treated like work animals, they’re still familiar with humans and will attack them rather than run away. Even a beagle can be dangerous with the wrong disposition.
