There aren’t many people who can say they’ve been around long enough to have seen the invention of light bulbs, but Stanley Lucas is close. After all, the oldest still-burning light is only 109, and Stanley celebrated his 110th birthday yesterday. That makes Stanley the oldest man in Europe, and third-oldest man in the world! He had a quiet day with friends and family, and got his seventh birthday card from the Queen of England to cap off his momentous day.
The secret to Stanley’s life? Well, he stayed active, playing bowls until age 100. He’s enjoyed a diet of good country food, having dropped out of school at 14 to work on the family farm. Oh yeah, and he doesn’t smoke (though he does enjoy the occasional drink). Even more miraculous is that Stanley was excused from service in both World War I and World War II due to a heart condition, which makes his incredible lifespan that much more incredible!
