There’s bonding with your dog, and then there’s bonding with your dog. Five corrections officers in Powhatan County, Virginia, have been accused of getting a little too friendly with their K9 partner during training sessions. Prosecutors accuse the handlers of touching the dog inappropriately in a very personal area. I know you want to stay on the dog’s good side so he doesn’t shoot you in the back or tear your face off, but that’s a little too much bonding for me to be comfortable with.
Of course, Powhatan County’s district attorney dropped the case against the officers. Apparently, under Virginia law, you have to prove the actions were cruel to the animals, and there’s no way of proving that the police dog was made uncomfortable or didn’t want the attention given to him. No word on whether or not the officers will be charged with sexual harassment since they fondled a co-worker.
