Four years ago, he saved the dogs’ lives. This year, they took his. A 52-year-old doctor from Ljubljana, Romania, was found mauled to death by his own pet dogs in his backyard, which surprised no one save the man himself. After all, at one point, his beloved bullmastiffs were going to be put down by local authorities for attacking humans. They repaid that kindness by killing him.
There are lots of dogs that bite people. Any dog, if provoked, will bite. However, most of those bites aren’t meant to be fatal. These dogs were attack dogs, plain and simple. Whether they were abused by their owner, bred in a bad kennel, or abused while they were in state custody is up for debate, but something turned those dogs bad and they never should have been remanded into the man’s custody, no matter how many years he was willing to fight for them in court or how many palms he greased.
