It’s not every day you have to drive from Dulce, Minnesota, to Aspen, Colorado, so Jason Pede was a bit out of his element. When he stopped to ask a local for a quicker route to get to the popular Colorado skiing town to deliver an Australian Shepherd rescue dog, he didn’t think to make sure the route would be free of snow. While driving along the Rio Grand National Park, he found out that the average short cut is really unhelpful, and spent the next 3 days trapped in his car after his Lincoln Navigator got stuck in the snow.
So how did Pede survive being stranded outside of Saguache, Colorado, in the freezing cold? He kept himself warm using his car’s heater, until he ran out of gas, and kept himself hydrated by melting snow and sipping Mountain Dew. When his supplies ran out, he walked seven miles to the nearest road, and flagged down help using his flashlight. Hopefully I won’t be having to recreate this feat today should I get trapped in the snowpocalypse.
