Beppe Bigazzi is a very popular and very experienced chef. The 77-year-old is the host of the Italian version of the show Ready Steady Cook, called La Prova del Cuoco. Or rather, he was the host and was very popular. When people started complaining about a recipe for cat casserole he gave out on the air, that’s when things started to get ugly. Now, Bigazzi is suspended from his job thanks to what he claims is a traditional recipe from his home region of Valdarno, Tuscany.
Bigazzi went on record on the program about how delicious cat meat was, saying, “I’ve eaten it myself and it’s a lot better than many other animals. Better than chicken, rabbit or pigeon.” Since then he has apologized, but he’s added that back in his childhood days, during World War II, people in Tuscany prepared cats in the manner he described all the time.
Eating pork and fish is one thing, but I draw the line at cat food.
