One of the biggest commercials of the Super Bowl was related to the restaurant chain Denny’s, who offered a free Grand Slam breakfast in one of their spots in an attempt to lure in potential customers in addition to rewarding their old customers. In a tightening economy, Denny’s has become one of the bigger deals around, thanks to lots of food at reasonable prices. It’s no wonder that some kids took them up on the offer, rather than going to school. That’s precisely what earned 46 students at Rhode Island’s West Warwick High school suspensions.
Assistant principal Paula Santos got wind of the cut day and drove to Denny’s to tell the kids to go back to school. When they arrived, principal Karen Tarasevich was waiting there to suspend them for a day. The kids who didn’t go back earned two-day suspensions. That seems a little harsh, especially to the kids who actually listened to the assistant principal and went back to school! Then again, kids get suspended for anything these days.
