There’s nothing harder than breaking up with someone. Even if you want to end the relationship, it’s a tough thing to do to someone. That’s why the Dear John letter was invented back in WWII, and why digital dumping is on the rise. According to a survey from dating website DateTheUK, while face-to-face breakups still rule the heartbreak hotel with 38%, over 34% of people have ended a relationship via email, 8% via telephone, and a paltry 2% via text message.
Well, that’s not so bad. At least there’s something, right? Compared to the 13% of people who changed their relationship status on Facebook without telling the other person they were breaking up with them, or the 6% of heartless folks who broke up in public via Twitter (possibly after meeting at a Twitter singles mingle), and breaking up via SMS looks downright noble by comparison!
