A Dutch Welsummer hen by the name of Matilda has shocked her owners, Mark Cornish and Denise Bartram, by laying an egg that is four times the size of a normal egg. In spite of the fact that in the six months Mark and Denise have raised chickens in their backyard, Matilda has only produced four eggs, she was somehow able to lay this monster egg which may make up for her otherwise unproductive career as an egg-layer. As you can see by the picture above, this egg is serious business.
Said Matilda’s owner Mr. Cornish, “I was so surprised, I thought a goose must have got in there by mistake. It does not look as though a chicken would have laid it.” While the giant egg isn’t a world record, this particular chicken didn’t have to give up her life to lay her gigantic egg, unlike the last giant egg-laying chicken.
