Here in America, if you hear a ruckus at night you might go outside and find yourself face-to-face with a little bandit-masked raccoon rummaging through your trash, looking for a snack. Raccoons can get mean, but they’re not too big and you can probably chase them off with a broom and you’ll be fine until next trash day. However, if you live in China’s mountainous Sichuan Province? You might step outside and find a panda munching on your pig slop.
We’re not talking an adorable baby panda, we’re talking about a full-sized giant panda. While pandas are known to eat bamboo, they’re actually carnivores who eat meat in addition to bamboo, fruit, eggs, and honey. Apparently hunger drove the beast from the mountains to the pig pen, where it broke in to chew on bones and rummage through the leftovers for edible bits. Just wait until they get a taste for human meat.
