Recently, I got a chance to check out the excellent Pride And Prejudice And Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls. It’s the latest literary mash-up between Jane Austen and monsters to be released by Quirk Book. As part of a worldwide blogger initiative, I got a chance to read and write up a review of the book for Quirk, and while the full review is over at Den of Geek, I can safely assure you that you don’t need to read the whole review in order for me to tell you that PPZ: Dawn of the Dreadfuls is incredible.
I enjoyed the concept behind the original Pride And Prejudice And Zombies moreso than the execution, and unshackled from the corpse of Jane Austen’s breathy prose, PPZ: DotD really goes all out with the idea that a proper Regency England girl can also be a closet zombie-killing machine thanks to her Oriental training with the Shaolin Monks. The book also has quite a bit of fun with all the other social conventions of that period of time, too.
This is a great book, gang. If you’d like to get your hands on some zombie comedy of manners mash-up lit, head over to Quirk Books’ forum where there’s a DotD prize pack giveaway. All you have to do is leave them a note here, telling them where you saw the book review and you just might win a gift bag full of zombie swag. If you don’t win, you can preorder it at Amazon for $8.73 (or 80 cents on the Kindle!)
