Some folks say the creature that was captured by wildlife workers from the Wild Heart Ranch animal shelter is nothing more than a raccoon with mange. Others say that the beast is, in fact, the mythical chupacabra of Mexican legend. Either way, the weird little hairless critter recovered from a camp in northeast Oklahoma is unusual, and not just because she’s so ugly. As Wild Heart Ranch director Annette King Tucker said, “This is the first time I’ve ever had a mange raccoon.” After 14 years, apparently she hasn’t seen it all.
The creature, which Ms. Tucker later describes as a little demon, was found at the Dry Gulch USA camp, which is a Christian camp outside Pryor, Oklahoma. That’s a very inappropriate place for a little monster to haunt, so odds are it’s not a soulless goat-killing demon. Still, it’s pretty rare for a raccoon to have mange. Forgive me for my skepticism; when it comes to cryptids, I’m a believer.
