You’d think that, after having lost his job with a nonprofit firm, that Reed Sandridge would want to save money. Instead of saving, he’s paying it forward. Every day, he’s giving a random person on the street $10 and asking them what they’re going to do with it. Then, he heads home and writes up that interaction in his blog, Year of Giving.
A lot of the money is going towards food, it seems. That’s not surprising. Most people wouldn’t mind an extra $10 to put towards their grocery bill or to pick up an unexpected little treat during the week. However, some of the money is being put towards the philanthropy of others, to support burgeoning music careers, or simply as money to be passed on down the line to the next person who looks like they could use a hand.
The year of giving will come to an end on December 16, 2010, but Reed is looking for other ways to get creative and still give back after that. Assuming he has a job by then, of course. Otherwise, he might be the one in need of that extra $10! Then again, after this, he’s built up a lot of good karma, so hopefully things will turn around for him soon.
