Ali Sabat was undertaking his duty as a faithful Muslim. All Muslims are required by the Koran to make a pilgrimage, or hajj, to Mecca, visiting the holy city and all the places where Muhammad lived and where Islam started. Unfortunately for Ali, Mecca is in Saudi Arabia, the most backwards country in a region full of backwards people. That’s why Ali was picked up by police and sentenced to death. You see, he was a popular TV show host in Lebanon, where he gave his viewers psychic predictions and advice. Because he was a TV psychic, he’ll now be executed by the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, Saudi Arabia’s morality police.
The only way Ali can save his own head is to confess that his psychic powers were nothing more than entertainment-industry fakery, rather than true psychic skills. Of course, by doing so, he’ll ruin his career on television. However, he’ll get to keep his head that way.
Ali, ever the showman, is refusing to admit he’s a fraud, hoping that Amnesty International can pull his neck from within the noose. If he was really psychic, wouldn’t he have avoided all this business? Criswell never got his head cut off!
