It sounds like the punchline to an old, misogynistic joke, but it’s apparently true. Researchers have said that the average woman spends nearly three years of her life shopping. A survey of 3000 women determined just how much time the ladies spend shopping, and from there the numbers were extrapolated along a life-span of about 62 years, meaning that the real time spent shopping might be much longer. Of course, there is research bias for something like this (so the number is probably larger), but the numbers themselves are fascinating.
In a year, a woman makes about 301 shopping trips on average. Those trips eat up about 400 hours per year, give or take. That’s just for everything. Given that women do most of the shopping for the average family, that’s not too big of a number. About 95 hours of that time is spent for food shopping, which makes sense since that’s what you prepare for ahead of time. That’s 84 trips to the store per year. However some 90 trips out, over 170 hours of that shopping time, is spent browsing for clothes (100 hours), shoes (40 hours), and accessories (29 hours).
I’d be curious to see how much time guys spend shopping. I know if I spend more than an hour in a store, I start to go stir-crazy and have to leave. I mean, I like fancy new stuff as much as the next person, but I also can’t stay in the same place for very long.
