Remember the early days of the Internet, when plain backgrounds, rotating .GIFs, and auto-starting MIDI files were all the rage? Well, if for some reason you want to relive the Internet’s early, ugly history, then you need to turn only to the Geocities-izer from Wonder-Tonic. The tagline is “Make Any Webpage Look Like It Was Made By A 13-Year-Old In 1996” and it definitely lives up to that billing!
It’s like being hit in the face with a sack full of web history. I Geocities-ized PopFi and… yeah, the results are scarily accurate to what Geocities used to look like, right down to the dancing baby and the 7-Up Spot. I don’t remember the exploding fart guy, but I’m sure he was there, too.
What’s weird is the Geocities pages, in retrospect, remind me of MySpace profiles. Bad music, distracting backgrounds, weird .GIFs and odd images thrown in randomly, broken HTML… yeah, MySpace is the new Geocities, all right. Right down to becoming a dated, incredibly expensive afterthought of history!
