You kind of have to admire the guy for his guts before laughing at him for his incompetence. A man with no maps (besides a normal road map) wanted to do some traveling. The aim was to travel from Gillingham to Southampton in Great Britain using only the coast as a guide. He figured if he kept the coast to his right, he’d be okay. Well, as it turns out sailing isn’t as easy as Laura Dekker makes it look, the guy took a wrong turn and ended up circling the Isle of Sheppey until he ran out of fuel and crashed his boat.
Somehow or another, the guy lost his bearings and never got out of the River Thames estuary he was located in. Thus, when disoriented, he didn’t know he kept going around in circles around the same 36-miles-square island. The coast guard had to dispatch a life boat to rescue the man once his craft ground to a halt on the land. Well, at least no one got hurt, and maybe someone learned a lesson.
