It’s the achievement of a lifetime, yet it also may be one of the most dangerous things ever created by man. Scientists in Maryland, lead by Dr. Craig Venter, have developed artificial life. The scientists created artificial bacterium DNA and transplanted it into a cell, where it replicated and created a completely artificial life form. Welcome to science fiction territory, ladies and gentlemen.
While it’s not quite at the level of creating some kind of artificial monster, that’s not far behind. Do you think scientists are really going to be happy with just slapping together some artificial bacteria for use as an alternate fuel or to create some kind of wonder drug? No way. These are the sorts of people who create glowing puppies; they’ll do anything they can, just because they can.
This is how pretty much every science fiction monster movie starts. It’s either some monster created in a lab or some monster caught for science or some sort of nuclear blast. When this artificial cell turns into some kind of humanoid killer, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
