There’s any number of things that you can do to help watch out for heart disease. There are preventative foods you can eat, like chocolate and peanuts, or there’s calcium monitoring to watch for your risk of heart attack. However, when it comes to preventing heart disease, can it be as simple as brushing your teeth twice a day? That’s what a dentist-pleasing report from University College London researcher Richard Watt suggests!
While the health benefits of brushing your teeth twice a day are fairly low, at least considering all the other heart risk factors out there, there is a measured benefit to it. In a survey of 11,000 people followed over 8 years, those that brushed their teeth like dentists say had reduced inflammation of the gums and mouth, which experts believe is directly related to clogged arteries. Previous studies have directly connected heart disease and gum disease.
This just seems really random, doesn’t it? Is the body that interconnected that a clean tongue and fresh breath means a clean heart and fresh… arteries?
