I’m not British, but to me the perfect combination of food items is fish and chips. You’ve got fish, so it’s healthy, but you’ve also got batter and fries on the side, so it’s also delicious. (Yes, I know fish and chips is completely unhealthy, just leave me to my happy lie.) I’m in favor of fish and chips pretty much all the time; however, I’m not sure I can get behind fish and chips ice cream. That seems like it’s going a step too far, even for a country with James Bond ice pops.
The unusual desert is the brainchild of Lancashire ice cream maker Frederick’s Dairies, who are pushing the flavor out in time for the World Cup. The weird frozen treat involves cod-flavored ice cream coated with vanilla and pepper batter. It is accompanied by Maris Piper potato ice cream chips, and there’s salt and vinegar on the side. There’s even included lemon wedges!
It sounds like the perfect remake of fish and chips, but I just can’t get over the idea of fish-flavored ice cream. Unless, of course, the ice cream comes wrapped in an old newspaper, with a side of porter. Still, I’d be willing to give it a shot, if someone can figure out how to ship ice cream across the Atlantic.
