I think, at some point, everyone has wanted to go to space. Unfortunately, even with civilian space travel and commercial spacecraft on the horizon, a trip to the Moon is still out of most peoples’ budget range. That’s okay, NASA is willing to help you out. You might not be able to go into space, but you can still put your face into space thanks to their Face In Space program. Basically, you upload a picture of yourself, NASA compresses it into a file, and then that file gets loaded onto the space shuttle and shot into space. Viola, your picture is now an astronaut!
There’s a couple of options you can sign up for. Your face can go up on STS-133, the last mission of the Discovery, or STS-134 if you want to hitch a ride on the Endeavor’s last trip. Maybe they’ll take a picture of your picture in space and Tweet it back to you, or they might add the photo DVD to the collection of art already in orbit. Either one of those would be pretty cool, don’t you think?
