In the summer of 2008, Tom Cruise was on the downside of his career. He was a joke, thanks to his courtship of Katie Holmes, a crazy appearance on Oprah, and some controversial comments he made expressing his Scientology beliefs in a fairly aggressive manner towards The Today Show’s Matt Lauer. Then Tropic Thunder happened. Tom Cruise’s character, the hirsute Alpha male executive Les Grossman, absolutely stole the show. Now, Les Grossman’s life story is becoming a movie.
Tom stars as Grossman, with Ben Stiller writing the script and producing alongside with Grossman. Err, Tom Cruise. No word yet on if Stiller, Jack Black, or Robert Downey Jr. will also be reprising their Tropic Thunder characters, but I’m kind of hopeful. That movie was surprisingly great. If they could work Danny McBride in somehow, then it’ll all be worth Tom Cruise putting back on the staggeringly good Les Grossman fat suit. I hope Paramount and MTV Films are listening!
