Brittney Horstman was stopping off at the Miami Federal Detention Center as part of her job duty. At the time, she was an employee of the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Dade County, Florida, so she was going to visit one of her clients, until the guards stopped her for setting off the metal detector. The culprit was her underwire bra. Although attorneys are allowed to be passed through security wearing their underwire bras after a wand screening thanks to an agreement made between the attorneys and the prison, Brittney was not as the guards apparently missed that memo.
Wisely, she took her bra off in the bathroom, and tried to pass through again. This time, she was turned back because she WASN’T wearing a bra, which is a violation of the facility’s dress code. Apparently, there was just no way she was going to get in to see her client that day, and she raised an appropriate level of stink about it, both to Warden Linda McGrew and to her colleagues. Warden McGrew did a thorough investigation, and has said the incident won’t happen again.
If they’re worried about her smuggling in contraband, they’re probably checking the wrong part of her body. Just throwing that out there.
