Like every comedian, elementary schooler Sydney Claxton has wondered something. Why do people stick a curved bratwurst onto some inadequate hot dog bun? The hot dog bun is too small and straight, so you’ve always got some meat overhanging when you try to stick a brat on a bun not made for brats. Well, for the science fair at Parkview School, Sydney’s home school in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the 9-year-old boy built a better bratwurst bun.
Dubbed Sydney’s Curvy Brat Buns, the new bread innovation was developed by Sydney and Ralph Couey, owner of Connell’s Orchard (a shop which now stocks and sells the buns). The invention not only won Sydney two ribbons at the science fair, but it’s now selling like hotcakes at Connell’s! The buns retail for $2.50 for a 5-pack.
If you build a better mousetrap, the world will supposedly beat a path to your door. If you build a better bratwurst bun, will you get besieged by hungry Germans? I guess we’ll find out!
