Golf is a game of avoiding problems. Sand traps, rough, bunkers, trees, lakes and streams, cart paths, and sometimes mountain lions are all present on the course to serve as a detriment to your playing ability. Well, okay, not every course has mountain lions, just Valley View Golf Club in Bozeman, Montana, where golfers teeing off over the weekend were treated to an extra guest in the tee box. Another (the same?) mountain lion was also spotted near the Aspen Pointe senior living center.
Kathy Middleton, an animal control agent in Bozeman, says that mountain lions generally sleep during the day, so odds are this particular lion was on the move. As for the lion who hit the links? “They think it may be out in a tree somewhere on the golf course right now,” said Ms. Middleton, who added that most mountain lions aren’t dangerous to people and that the state doesn’t trap and relocate them. Advice to those in mountain-lion-prone areas: if you see one, stand your ground and don’t run away. Also, it’s helpful if you have a chainsaw to defend yourself.
