If you’re a member of China’s People’s Liberation Army, good luck finding love. China already has a shortage of women, and in the male-centric military world, it’s even harder to date. However, thanks to the military’s need for secrecy and the fact that loose lips sink ships, online dating is banned by the Chinese military. Actually, it’s not just online dating. It’s also online socializing of any kind, making friends online, keeping a blog, and even looking for work outside of military service!
“People with ulterior motives may make use of the soldiers’ personal information and pose a threat to the safety of the army,” said Yang Jigui, an officer in Tibet. He said troops in his command, based in Shigatse, are turning to local government officials and the women’s wing of the local Communist Party in an attempt to land love, if only for while stationed in the mountains. If you can’t find love, you can always just play Warcraft until you go blind.
