When it comes to debunking conspiracies, the United States government isn’t exactly the best. For every debunked theory (like the meaning of the Great Seal), they do something that’s sure to spark conspiracy theorist imaginations for years. Namely, the newly-announced United States Cyber Command, a division of the government designed to take over several previously-existing cyber security wings and bring them under one roof with the goal to protect the US from cyber attacks. While that’s all well and good, as it turns out the USCYBERCOM seal contains a secret message.
So what does the code 9ec4c12949a4f31474f299058ce2b22a actually mean? Maybe nothing; maybe something. US Cyber Command officials don’t actually know. Lt. Cmdr. Steve Curry asserts that the code is “definitely the mission statement” of Cyber Command rendered in MD5 (a security algorithm). “What part of the mission statement: That’s what I’m waiting to find out on from the people who designed it.”
I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel much safer. These guys can’t decode their own seal; how are they supposed to protect the US from international cyber criminals?
