Normally, soccer violence is limited to players attacking players or fans attacking fans. Sometimes, you’ll get something weird like fans attacking players, but very rarely do you see players attack officials. However, during a Chile Primera B game between Deportes Conception and Rangers, Rangers defender Jose Pedroso went after referee Marcelo Miranda and started choking him!
During the highly important game in Chile’s second division of professional football, Miranda caused controversy by ordering a free kick to be taken three times due to various violations during the kicking process. Pedroso, angered by a second yellow card and an early dismissal by the ref, just went nuts and wrapped his arm around the offiical’s throat during an argument following his booking. Fortunately, his Rangers teammates successfully dragged him off the pitch. The incident was caught on video.
For those that care about the result, Conception beat Rangers 3-0. As for Pedroso, he’s quitting Rangers and heading back to Paraguay, presumably to spend more time choking his family.
