Winston Churchill is one of the most famous leaders in the world, and he is noted to have had a particular fascination with one topic his modern counterparts disavow completely:  flying saucers.  While the Ministry of Defense in Great Britain has destroyed its UFO records, one set of correspondence says that a secret meeting took place between Churchill and US General Dwight Eisenhower from World War II has escaped destruction.  In these documents, it is alleged that Churchill covered up a UFO sighting off the coast of England near Cumbria during World War II.

It’s part of a stack of nearly 5000 documents declassified by the MOD.  While returning from Europe, a reconaissance plane was shadowed, then confronted by a silver saucer-shaped aircraft that hovered noiselessly.  Sounds like a UFO to me, right?  Well, according to the declassified meeting notes:  “There was a general inability for either side to match a plausible account to these observations, and this caused a high degree of concern.  Mr Churchill is reported to have made a declaration to the effect of the following: ‘This event should be immediately classified since it would create mass panic among the general population and destroy one’s belief in the Church’.”
