Guys, when they tell you not to smoke on an airplane, they’re not kidding. When that no-smoking light is on, you’d best respect it, because these days lighting up on an airplane is a serious crime. When a man was caught trying to smoke on a coast-to-coast flight from New York’s JFK International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport, not only did the guy get in trouble with the TSA, the flight was diverted to New Mexico to remove the smoking man from the plane.
The plane, American Airlines Flight 117, was forced down in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The plane’s 168 passengers got off; one of them didn’t get back on. The flight made it to LAX with no other complications once The Cigarette Smoking Man was taken off the plane. I guess smoking really does make you dumber, because I have no idea how this guy thought he could get away with smoking in a plane given the presence of smoke detectors everywhere.
