Letitia A. Long is a remarkable woman. Pretty much since she started working in the intelligence world, she’s been a trailblazer. This noteworthy woman has been second-in-command at the Defense Intelligence Agency and deputy director of Naval Intelligence, and now she’s the first woman to head a US Intelligence Agency as today she’s expected to be the first female director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. This is considered the “top computer geek shop” in the intelligence community, responsible for synthesizing satellite imagery into useful maps for everything from troop movements to tracking the Gulf oil spill.
Long is uniquely qualified for her position as overlord of the nerds. She’s got degrees in both electrical and mechanical engineering, and she’s been actively involved in the operations of intelligence departments her entire career. She’ll not only get one of the most important positions, she’ll also get one of the nicest new offices. The NGIA is scheduled to move into a Jetsons-style new building near Fort Belvoir in Springfield, Virginia, in 2011. Sounds like a perfect recipe to counteract spies of both genders to me!
