A Roman Catholic Priest, Rev. Luke Strand who works with the Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, wanted to stand out while driving around in the community. After all, God is everywhere, and men of the cloth are always willing to help others, no matter the time or place. So, he took his Volkswagen Beetle, took a cue from Best Buy’s Geek Squad, and affixed a circular God Squad logo to the side of his car. Best Buy isn’t so keen on their trademark being co-opted and have sent Rev. Strand a letter telling him to cease and desist with the God Squad logo.
“He got a letter and his jaw dropped and he didn’t quite know what to do with it,” Rev. Bob Stiefvater, a colleague of Rev. Strand’s at Holy family.”He’s very aware that every company has to protect its trademark and that ‘Geek Squad’ is a protected trademark.” Strand was out of town and unable to comment; he’s still driving the God Squad car (his only car) but has removed the logo.
I suggest Rev. Strand take up skateboarding; that seems to be a great way to reach out to teens and troubled youngsters while still being awesome.
