Most people require a lot of time and preparation to break world records. A lot of those record-breaking feats are the result of years of practice and effort. Not Melissa Thompson’s new ultra-fast texting world record: she just walked in off the streets and smashed the world record formerly held by Franklin Page with seemingly no effort aside from her normal texting habits! She just walked into a Samsung road show with her boyfriend, Chris Davies, and left the competition in the dust!
The key to Melissa’s runaway victory and new-found fame was the Samsung Galaxy S phone with the SWYPE keypad. That keypad allows texters to type without moving their fingers from the keyboard. Thus, when Thompson was presented with the challenging phrase “the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human,” she was able to fill in the words in 25.95 seconds with no problem. (Page’s former world record of 35.54 seconds was also typed in on a Samsung device.)
“‘I used to send a lot of text messages – 40 or 50 a day to Chris alone so we both knew I could type fast,” she said. “‘But since we moved in together and I started my job I haven’t been texting as much and, you could say, my fingers were out of shape. It’s a real shock to find out that I’m the fastest texter in the world. But using SWYPE helped. Everyone should give it a go and see how easy it is.”
