It’s long been rumored, or feared, depending on your mindset. However, the stuff of your fevered dreams is now reality, as Hello Kitty Online has been launched in America. Hello Kitty Online, a brand new MMOG from Sanrio Digital and Typhoon Games, is said to be the first game to merge social networking with the MMOG environment, via the game’s required connection to Sanrio’s online home, Sanrio Town. I wouldn’t know, because I went to Sanrio Town’s website and was immediately stricken blind by a pinksplosion.
“Sanrio Digital has created an entertaining digital world for our fans to engage with Hello Kitty and Sanrio friends in a truly social gaming environment,” said Robert Ferrari, VP of publishing and business development for Sanrio Digital. “To celebrate Sanrio’s 50th anniversary, we are excited to launch Hello Kitty Online and offer our Premium Edition Retail SKU to both current and soon-to-be fans.”
To the game’s credit, it comes in both free digital download and the aforementioned retail edition, which comes with a free mini pet, collector’s postcards, an 82-page game manual, and $15 in Sanrio Cash Points. And apparently, it’s free-to-play, so I figure it’s mostly harmless, aside from the retina damage from the Hello Kitty Power Drill. I guess if you’ve finished World of Warcraft, now you’ve got something to do with your time.
