In a way, the guy had a great idea. When an unidentified black man headed into the Chase Bank in Atlanta, Georgia, determined to rob it, he knew he had to hide his identity, so he bought what is probably the creepiest possible crook mask ever made. He slipped a porcelain doll’s face over his real face, made his bank robbery, and left. There’s only one problem. The Doll-Faced Bandit was caught putting his mask on outside the bank by surveillance cameras.
Oops.
The store cameras got not one, but two good pictures of the man’s face, including his hairstyle, facial hair, prescription eyeglasses, the whole works. That kind of makes the job of finding the robber that much easier. You just look for the guy that looks like the guy that did it, and he’s probably your man. “Sometimes, the investigators that work these bank robberies do get lucky in terms of the robbers doing something stupid, leaving something behind that is an incredible investigative lead,” said Atlanta FBI spokesman Steve Emmett.
I’d say “showing everyone your face” falls under the category “incredible investigative lead,” wouldn’t you?
