For most of America, he’s best know as the guy from America’s Got Talent, but apparently, before he was a poor man’s Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan was also a journalist. Apparently, he was a good journalist, too. That’s why Piers Morgan is going to replace Larry King behind the desk when King retires, taking over the desk of Larry King Live on CNN. I assume it’ll become the desk of Piers Morgan Live, Piers Morgan Tonight, Docking At the Piers, or something like that, since I doubt you can call the show Larry King Live With Piers Morgan.
Aside from serving as the host of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on Britain’s ITV, Morgan was also the youngest editor ever in the history of News of the World, and he was also senior editor of the Daily Mirror from 1996 until 2004. This, combined with his TV background, is what makes Morgan a natural fit to replace Larry King versus King’s favored replacement, Ryan Seacrest. As it turns out, some reality show hosts are more skillful than others.
“Piers has made his name posing tough questions to public figures, holding them accountable for their words and deeds,” said CNN US president Jon Klein said in the statement. “He is a natural fit with Anderson Cooper, Eliot Spitzer, and Kathleen Parker in our prime time line-up and the ideal choice to update the storied tradition of newsmaker talk on CNN.” Hopefully, Morgan will also inherit and uphold the tradition of brightly-colored suspenders.
